Mulching Mowers
Speak to Our Team
Mulching mowers offer an alternative to collecting grass by cutting the clippings into smaller pieces and returning them to the lawn. This removes the repeated task of emptying a grass box and can make regular mowing more efficient, particularly where there is no need to remove the cut material from the site.
Designed for frequent lawn maintenance
Mulching works most effectively when the lawn is cut regularly and only a modest amount of growth is removed at each pass. Under suitable conditions, the finely processed clippings settle back into the sward rather than remaining visibly on top. This can provide a tidy result without the time involved in collecting, transporting and disposing of clippings.
This approach is well suited to homeowners and grounds teams able to maintain a consistent mowing schedule. It is less appropriate where grass has become very long, wet or heavy, as a large volume of clippings may not be processed or dispersed as effectively. During periods of rapid growth, adjusting the mowing frequency can help maintain the intended finish.
Considering the lawn and mowing routine
The right mulching mower should reflect the size and layout of the lawn as well as the way it will be used throughout the season. Manoeuvrability may be important in gardens with trees, beds and narrow spaces, while durability and working efficiency may take priority across larger managed areas.
- Mowing frequency: regular cutting generally produces a cleaner mulching result.
- Grass conditions: dry or lightly damp grass is usually easier to process than heavy, wet growth.
- Lawn layout: consider slopes, obstacles, edges, gates and turning space.
- Power and working time: match the machine to the area covered during a typical mowing session.
- Seasonal flexibility: consider how the mowing approach may need to change during periods of fast growth.
Mulching compared with collection
Neither approach is automatically right for every lawn. Collection can be preferable where removing clippings is essential to the finished appearance or where mowing is less frequent. Mulching can save handling time when the lawn is maintained regularly and the conditions are suitable. Some users may benefit from choosing a machine or mowing setup that supports more than one approach, depending on seasonal requirements.
